Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, delivered a withering assessment of Nigerian governance on Wednesday but pledged to share information with authorities investigating corruption by US companies in sub-Saharan Africa’s biggest oil producer.
Nigeria’s decade of civilian rule has been marred by corruption and electoral violence but some analysts had expected Mrs Clinton to keep any criticism for private meetings with the rulers of the country that supplies about one in every 12 barrels of crude that the US imports.
