Companies cash in on White House race

In the run-up to the US presidential election on Tuesday, British businesses have bet overwhelmingly on a victory by George W. Bush and the Republican party.

So much is evident from campaign donation data in the US, which show employees of British-owned companies, including GlaxoSmithKline, BAE Systems and BP, have given in aggregate more than twice as much to Republican candidates in presidential and congressional races than to Democrats.
