British companies express regret for slavery connections

Rothschild, the merchant bank, and Freshfields, the City law firm, have become the first UK businesses to express regret for their historic links with slavery.

The comments came after the FT last week published details from previously unexamined documents, contained in the National Archive, that showed the connections.
