US claims to hold top Iraqi al-Qaeda leader

The US military said on Wednesday that they had caught the top Iraqi operative in al-Qaeda’s Iraq network, and that the man previously believed to have held that distinction was a fictional creation.

Brigadier General Kevin Bergner told a press conference that troops had captured Khaled al-Mashhadani, also known as ”Abu Shahid,” in the northern city of Mosul on July 4.
