Candlelight vigils have become common scenes in China following the devastating earthquake in Sichuan last month. On Wednesday, though, tens of thousands of people gather under candlelight in Hong Kong’s Victoria Park for a very different reason.
The annual gathering – the only public memorial of the event held on Chinese soil – marks the 19th anniversary of the massacre that followed pro-democracy student protests around Beijing’s Tiananmen Square on June 4 1989.
