John Allan of Deutsche Post is set to take over as chairman of DSG, as the struggling electrical retailer aims to turn around its fortunes after a poor end to 2008.

Mr Allan takes over from Sir John Collins, the former UK chairman of Shell, whose retirement was announced in September. The company declined to comment.
