Jobless forecast cut by ministers

Ministers have slashed forecasts for the number of people likely to need help from the government’s flagship long-term unemployment scheme after a slower than expected rise in unemployment benefit claimants.

Just days before the launch of the first phase of the Flexible New Deal, the government has told welfare-to-work providers to expect about 40 per cent fewer jobseekers.
