Sterling continues its rise against dollar

Sterling continued to rise against the dollar, on Friday peaking at $1.9748, its highest level since its ejection from the European exchange rate mechanism in September 1992.

The pound has risen 14.6 per cent against the dollar this year and analysts were predicting the imminent breach of the $2 mark.
