With 98 per cent of pupils at private schools being offered a place at university, many parents choose independent secondary education as a way of ensuring that their child has the best chance to succeed, not just in school exams but in higher education as well.
But although the majority of private schools now tell parents they can prepare pupils for Oxford, Cambridge and the other top universities, the playing field is far from even.
