Wealthy set for housing boost

Private banks are capitalising on what is expected to be a bumper bonus season in the City by easing their lending rules to attract wealthy home buyers who have been shut out by the high street.

Savills Private Finance, a mortgage broker that caters to high earners, says it is placing about three quarters of home loans of more than £1m with private banks, compared with just one quarter in 2007.
