Universities need more investment to compete

Ministers must maintain the growth in spending on universities despite the tight public finances to avoid losing position against rival countries that have stepped up state funding, the chief spokesman for the sector warned.

Rick Trainor, president of Universities UK, said in an interview with the Financial Times that Britain needed “more investment in higher education” simply to “keep up” with other nations.
