Livingstone hits at US ambassador for avoiding toll

The US ambassador in London is behaving "like a chiselling little crook" in a row about whether embassy cars should pay traffic charges, according to Ken Livingstone, the city's mayor.

The outburst, made in a television interview yesterday, drew a cool reaction from embassy officials who noted that the mayor, an often controversial figure in British political life, was prone to "hyperbole".
