Mikhail Fridman gathered all the know-how he has collected over 18 years as one of Russia's most aggressive investors for his biggest corporate battle yet - taking on BP for control of the TNK-BP oil venture.

He had honed his skills winning a high-profile battle last year over a disputed stake in a telecoms company that involved a legal assault on Leonid Reiman, the telecoms minister.
