Wrangling on agency staff rights plan

Hundreds of thousands of agency workers would get new pay rights after working for an employer for 12 weeks, under a government-brokered deal that was on Friday the subject of last-minute wrangling between employer and union bodies.

The three-month qualifying period would be a significant setback for business, which has consistently warned of thousands of potential job losses if agency staff gain the right to equal pay before working for a minimum of six months.
