UK needs industrial policy for a digital age

When the banking crisis swept Britain, critics were quick with a damning verdict: UK leadership in financial services disguised a major weakness – the absence of a more diverse industrial base.

The government will on Tuesday attempt to rebut this with the publication of Digital Britain, a policy framework for the communications and technology and media sector that represents a shift towards “industrial activism”.
