Local woes spark fears of US double-dip recession

At a price of just under $15,000 per year, education at New York’s state-run schools looks a bargain compared with the costs of private education. Relative to the average state school costs in the US, however, New York’s education is expensive.

This is one of the reasons why New York’s governor is trying to cut the state’s education budget, in an urgent effort to plug the deficit.
