An obvious use for the extraordinary

Rather gallingly, my pastry chef asks if I have ever made bread and butter pudding with panettone. Not only have I made it – I invented it, I cry, somewhat vaingloriously.

I have no idea if the statement is true and hardly deserves much credit even if it is: it was but a small jump from being introduced to this extraordinary confection some 20 years ago to deciding to employ it in a bread and butter pudding.
