Lufthansa suffers deep first-half loss

Lufthansa fell deeply into loss in the first six months of the year, as the worsening recession damped demand in particular from business travellers and severely depressed air fares.

The German airline, Europe’s largest measured by turnover, said it had fallen to a net loss of €216m ($303m) from a net profit of €381m a year ago.
