The mayor of Jerusalem has issued a vigorous defence of the city’s recent demolition of houses in Arab East Jerusalem, arguing that the international condemnation triggered by the orders was based on “Palestinian spin”.

Nir Barkat, who was elected to the post last November, said all demolitions were subject to court review, and that the municipality was tasked with upholding the law.
