Russia halts oil exports to Belarus

Russia on Monday halted oil exports to Europe that pass via Belarus and blamed Minsk for siphoning off oil from a big transit pipeline.

Transneft, Russia’s oil pipeline monopoly, said it was forced to stop pumping oil through a pipeline carrying about 30 per cent of its exports to Europe because Belarus was effectively stealing it. Senior Russian officials said Minsk’s actions “smelled of a trade war”.
