France and Poland turned up the diplomatic heat on Switzerland on Monday as lawyers for Roman Polanski said the film director arrested in Zurich on Saturday night would use all legal measures to fight extradition to the US.

Bernard Kouchner, the French foreign minister, called the arrest a “bit sinister” and said he hoped Mr Polanski could be released quickly.
