Bank shares, sterling-dollar, pork bellies, but not the General Election … the list of popular spread bets in the past three months demonstrates a significant shift in sentiment – and the news agenda – according to the UK’s leading betting firms.

In fact, as volatility has ebbed from the City’s exchanges and into the Westminster village, they report a resurgence of the behaviour now criticised in MPs: bullish opportunism.
