Tories attack voting reform proposal

The Conservatives on Monday accused Labour of wanting to move the electoral goalposts to rig the next general election, after it emerged ministers are considering a change to the UK’s first-past-the-post voting system.

Ministers also plan to consult on moving the day of the general election vote from the traditional Thursday to a weekend poll, in a move designed to stem the long-term decline in turnouts.
