India faces chronic engineering skills shortage

India faces a chronic shortage of skills in its construction industry over the next decade which could jeopardise the government’s ability to sustain its 9 per cent growth target, the World Bank warned on Monday.

The number of civil engineering graduates needed to rise threefold to avoid a crippling failure to make the improvements in infrastructure required by a high growth economy, the Washington-based multilateral lender said.
