South Africa will turn its back on previous Aids policies on Wednesday by unveiling a five-year plan setting clear and ambitious targets for combating the epidemic, including halving the number of new infections by 2011.
The R45bn ($6.4bn, €4.8bn, £3.2bn) plan draws a line under an era in which the South African government has been repeatedly accused at home and abroad of a slow and obstructive response to the crisis.
