Jim Kerr, 48, is lead singer of the band Simple Minds, who celebrate their 30th anniversary this year with a world tour. Kerr will also appear at Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday celebrations in Hyde Park, London, on June 27. Twice married, to the singer Chrissie Hynde and then to the actress Patsy Kensit, Jim has two children, Yasmin, 23, and James, 16, and he lives part of the year in Taormina, Sicily.

You were born in Glasgow, Scotland. What are your memories of growing up there?
