Gazprom invests $2.5bn in Nigeria gas

Gazprom, the Russian gas monopoly, has signed a deal to invest at least $2.5bn in a new joint venture with Nigeria’s state-owned oil company to explore and develop the country’s vast gas reserves.

Dmitry Medvedev, Russia’s president, said he hoped Russia and Nigeria would become “major energy partners” during a visit to Abuja, the capital.
