China to act on longstanding market problems

Chinese shares, mired in a five month-long slump, sparked to life on Wednesday on expectations that the head of the stock market regulator would soon step down and clear the way for a fresh set of policies to address the market's longstanding problems.

The country's media said, and officials confirmed, that Shang Fulin, head of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, would leave after nearly two years in the post.
