Tory leader cleaves to centre ground

Labour cabinet ministers were rubbing their hands in anticipation last week: their carefully crafted hype about an autumn election would throw David Cameron's Conservative conference into disarray.

"The real story about the Tory conference will be about the jockeying to replace Cameron," predicted one minister.
