Pfizer to build £40m stem cell facility

Britain's international status as a location for stem cell science received a big boost yesterday when Pfizer, the world's largest drug company, announced plans to spend up to $60m (£40m) on a research centre in Cambridge.

The US-based company, which will set up a similar facility in Massachusetts, aims to "develop a new generation of regenerative medicines . . . that may prevent disability, repair failing organs and treat degenerative diseases".
