The strength of the UK’s grass-roots recycling efforts has become apparent in the past two weeks as an acrimonious split has emerged between British members of the Freecycle Network and its US founders.

Hundreds of local, UK-based groups have declared independence from the internet-based recycling network to set up a competing organisation known as Freegle.
