City alarmed by planned directive

The European Commission’s proposed directive on “alternative investment fund managers” – prompted by public anger over the credit crisis – has caused alarm in the City of London.

Drawn up by Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, former Danish prime minister and president of the European Socialist party, the proposals would force many hedge funds and private equity groups to register with their country regulators for the first time and provide extensive information on their activities.
