Suppliers optimistic about contracts

Kevin Smith is confident that the component company he works for can benefit from Hitachi’s £7bn Intercity Express contract, having already secured an €11m (£9.9m) contract from the Japanese trainmaker.

Mr Smith is an engineering manager at the British arm of Faiveley Transport, a French-owned rail systems producer which employs 137 people at its plant in Birkenhead.
