An influential US business group has signalled its support for the big four accounting firms' efforts to win some protection against potentially catastrophic negligence claims.

The head of the Business Roundtable, whose members are chief executives of some of the biggest US public companies, said it favoured a limit on auditors' liability in principle and wanted lawmakers to address the issue.
