Barack Obama will lobby in favour of Chicago’s 2016 Summer Olympics bid this Friday, after the US president decided to join his wife in making a pitch for their home city when the International Olympic Committee meets in Copenhagen.
This is a surprise about-turn from Mr Obama’s previous announcement that he was too pre-occupied with healthcare reform at home and would instead send his “superstar” wife to rally support for Chicago’s bid.
