Dmitry Medvedev, Russia’s president, sets off on a high-profile foreign trip on Thursday to attend a summit with the European Union in France, followed by the Group of 20 meeting in Washington on Saturday to discuss the global economic crisis.

According to Russian officials, he will have important proposals to put on the table at both events.
