The fastest economic growth for six years, public coffers swelling as tax revenues surge, consumers and business in an upbeat mood: Europe is giving a good impression of being back as a global economic powerhouse.
So far there is little sign of the momentum slowing. The European Commission forecasts European Union gross domestic product will grow by 2.9 per cent this year, scarcely lower than last year’s 3 per cent growth – the highest since 2000.
