Sunsets studied as snap poll odds cut

Weather forecasts, timetables for sunsets and obscure council by-election results are all being scrutinised by Gordon Brown’s aides as they weigh the pros and cons of an early election.

Favourable opinion polls for Labour have seen bookmakers’ odds on a snap poll shorten dramatically over the past fortnight. Election frenzy has gripped the media and Westminster. But are the polls strong enough to convince Mr Brown to risk it all?
