Big blueprint for IBM services

Fve years ago, just as Thomas Friedman completed his book The World is Flat, IBM’s giant IT services division had run into a problem.

The “offshoring” boom had un­leashed India’s mass of low-cost computer engineers on to a new world market for outsourced technology services – a central theme of Mr Friedman’s work. As the world’s biggest technology services business, IBM was vulnerable.
