For most of 2009, equity markets have been a one-way bet: upwards. For spread betters, this does not offer many opportunities to profit from speculating on indices.

But in the later part of the year, markets started to wobble again – creating short-term opportunities for placing a spread bet on the FTSE 100 or the Dow Jones.
