Top Indonesian minister tapped for central bank

Indonesia’s president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, has decided to nominate his respected chief economics minister to be the next central bank governor in what analysts are taking as a sign of a possible rift between the president and one of the country’s leading reformists.

Sri Mulyani Indrawati, who also serves as finance minister, has been at the vanguard of efforts to reform Indonesia’s bloated bureaucracy and is widely seen as one of the most capable members of Mr Yudhoyono’s cabinet.
