OFT rules pub ‘ties’ not anti-competitive

Shares in pub groups soared on Thursday following a ruling by the Office of Fair Trading that exclusive purchase agreements between breweries and pubs were not anti-competitive.

The decision prompted protest from beer advocates and independent pub operators but a sharp rise in the price of shares in listed tenanted pub companies.
