Siemens stops 30% pay rise after mobile unit debacle

Siemens, Europe's biggest engineering group, halted a 30 per cent executive pay rise yesterday to stem angry criticism over the troubled mobile handset division it paid a Taiwanese company to take over last year.

Three thousand German jobs were put at risk last week when BenQ Mobile, the handset company, announced that it was filing for insolvency after BenQ Corp, its Taipei parent, decided it could no longer afford to fund the unit.
