Justin King, chief executive of J Sainsbury, has taken home more than £11m in pay over the past two years as reward for hitting his targets in the supermarket chain’s three-year turnround plan.

Having completed the “Making Sainsbury’s Great Again” programme in 2008, Mr King this year received the remainder of the pay-out, including bonus and salary of £2.05m and 1m shares, worth £3.3m at Wednesday’s closing price, according to the company’s annual report. The total £5.35m pay-out comes after a well-rewarded 2008 when he was paid £5.7m, of which £3.3m was linked to share rewards and the remainder was made up of salary and bonus. Mr King was paid £1.7m in 2006.
