China’s president urges continuity

Hu Jintao, China’s president on Thursday said preserving stability was Beijing’s “overriding task” as it confronted a sharp slowdown that is calling the country’s economic model into question.

The call from Mr Hu came in an address to thousands of Communist party members as part of commemorations of Beijing’s decision 30 years ago to adopt the economic reforms that resulted in the surge in China’s economy.
