Crunch amplifies year-end effect

Aggressive rate cuts in the UK and Europe are pulling benchmark floating rates down sharply but, like the US, overall lending rates remain elevated when compared with targets set by central banks.

The proximity of the year-end remains a significant barrier for a further decline in London interbank offered rates for various currencies.
