Gulf firms secure record funds for expansion

Gulf-based companies raised a record amount in rights issues in the past year as they sought to fund regional and international expansion in spite of deteriorating global financial conditions.

The value of rights issues jumped by 242 per cent to $15.76bn between July 2007 and June 2008 compared with $4.6bn raised during the same period a year earlier, according to international law firm Trowers & Hamlins.
