Although the beauty world is one that seems to thrive on the new and the different, whether miracle ingredients just discovered in the Amazon or mechanical mascara wands, in one respect at least it is notably traditional: nepotism. From Vidal Sassoon’s son Elan to Paul Mitchell’s son Angus, via Aerin Lauder, granddaughter of Estée, and Olivia Chantecaille, daughter of Sylvie, it seems that when it comes to curls, cosmetics and creams, the sons and daughters are in the ascendant.

Though the 38-year-old Sassoon took a decade-long detour working as a producer in Hollywood, this autumn he is picking up where his father left off (the Sassoon empire is now owned by Procter & Gamble), by launching Mizu, a pair of haute haircare salons, one on Manhattan’s East Side and the other at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Boston.
