The Office of Fair Trading is poised to break a string of cartels in the construction industry, its investigators believe.

A number of whistleblowers are understood to have alerted the OFT to anti-competitive behaviour by a series of companies, in an apparent vindication of the regulator's policy of offering lenient punishments for cartel members who come forward with information.
