Scrapping gives German car sales a short push

A generous scrapping scheme gave German car sales an extraordinary boost in June, it emerged on Thursday, just as a global survey cast doubt on the recovery prospects of the European car industry.

Car registrations in Germany jumped 40 per cent last month year on year, prompting the VDA lobby organisation to forecast a 13 per cent rise in car sales to 3.5m this year.
